Sundance Selects Acquires Spandau Ballet Doc, ‘Soul Boys of the Western World’

Sundance Selects has acquired the U.S. rights to “Soul Boys of the Western World,” a music documentary about Spandau Ballet from director George Hencken.
The doc follows the band from its inception in 1980s London, using footage from the members’ personal archives, before catching up with the five members through recent interviews, tracking the band’s enduring influence on music and fashion.
Producers on the Wellingmax production are Steve Dagger and Scott Millaney.
The rights were negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP of acquisitions, and Sean Berney, manager of acquisitions, on behalf of Sundance Selects/IFC, and Josh Braun and Ben Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers.
“Soul Boys of the Western World” premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March. The film will make its East Coast debut at DOC NYC this weekend. It will bow in theaters and on VOD in 2015
